One of the latest episodes of David Dickinson’s Real Deal, which was being filmed in Ilkeston, drew huge crowds of people, all wanting to know if their antiques and collectibles were valuable. One lady was delighted to discover that a Subbuteo game she had brought along was indeed the Real Deal, as it earned the title ‘Bobby Dazzler’.
When Gladys Brown decided to travel to the filming of Dickinson’s Real Deal, she was given a Subbuteo set by her husband to take along. Her husband had received the game as a Christmas present in 1961, but it had never been used. It had all its components intact, still sealed in the bags in perfect condition, and generated a lot of interest among the team.
Tony Geering, one of the experts, sat with Gladys and chatted about the game, valuing it between £40 and £60 – although Tony eventually gave Gladys £61 as a token gesture to the year it was made.
Gladys also took along a clock set in an eagle, a Denby rabbit and candle sticks. A deal was struck between Gladys and Karen Dalmeny for £300 for the eagle clock.
The TV show will be aired next year, which Gladys is looking forward to watching.
