The latest celebrity to get bitten by the antiques bug is bass guitarist Guy Berryman from Coldplay.
Berryman’s links with Scandinavian musicians through the band Apparatjik have also introduced him to the possibilities of dealing in Scandinavian antiques. Berryman, who lives in Sweden, has taken up sourcing and restoring Scandinavian antiques.
Berryman is the latest in what is becoming a long line of celebrities who have gone public over their interest in antiques. Harrison Ford admitted recently that he was a big fan of the British version of the Antiques Roadshow and watches the programme regularly with his actress wife Calista Flockhart. Whoopi Goldberg reportedly likes Bakelite jewellery as does Lily Tomlin who has worn some of her selection on The West Wing. Many celebrities of course collect movie memorabilia, Quentin Tarantino collects board games; Tom Hanks collects old typewriters; Jamie Lee Curtis, a keen amateur photographer herself, likes old black and white photographs; Demi Moore likes vintage clothing; Celine Dion likes shoes; and believe it or not, John Wayne collected dolls.
Of course, some celebrities like to decorate their homes with antiques and antique furniture. Many of the famous such as Cameron Diaz, Johnny Depp, Glen Close, Bett Midler, Bruce Springsteen and Dame Shirley Bassey have all been seen and photographed shopping along Antique Row in Palm Beach, Florida.
So if you want to a piece of the rich and famous lifestyle and don’t want to travel quite so far to get it, fine examples of antique cabinets can be found in Preston, Lancashire and the surrounding areas.
