Celebrity antiques appraiser Dr Lori will be appearing in South Jersey to host one of her many appraisals on 21st September.
South Jersey’s Fall Home Renovation Show is to be held at The Enterprise Centre, with a limited number of free appraisals. People will recognize Dr Lori from Discovery Channel’s Auction Kings, a reality TV show.
The antiques expert is also well-known for her comedic approach to antiques appraisals. Her straight talking approach is unique, combining humour and information. Although Dr Lori is known for her entertaining appraisals, she also gives people tips on how get the highest price for their items, how to negotiate their way through an auction, and how to discover bargains.
Dr Lori started her interest in antiques when she was a young girl, visiting yard sales and flea markets looking for antiques. Her discoveries would often end up in her father’s garage. Dr Lori’s parents encouraged her appreciation of old objects, having lived through World War II. Her decision to specialise in appraisals was inspired by a 75 year old woman who needed money to pay her electricity bill. The woman sold a George Washington document to get the $50 she needed, but the historic item was actually worth $50,000 (£31,000).
With a desire to help others to avoid making that mistake, Dr Lori now appraises around 20,000 items every year. Reputable dealers in the UK have extensive knowledge of antiques, with some in Preston specialising in furniture like antique bookcases.
