Yue Gao, a Harry Potter fanatic, has designed a Hogwarts-inspired apartment in Edinburgh.
Canongate Luxury Apartment has a master bedroom that was inspired by the Gryffindor common room at Hogwarts, the school in the popular J. K. Rowling books. It has a fireplace, a stone wall and a four-poster bed.
The apartment has a mirror formerly belonging to Rowling, along with an antique writing desk that also has associations with the author. Gao bought it from a restorer of furniture whose son went to the same school as Rowling’s daughter.
The small second bedroom is designed to resemble a Hogwarts Express train carriage. In the novels, it leaves from platform 9 3/4 at London’s King Cross station.
The kitchen is equipped with Harry Potter-themed mugs and crockery. The kitchen also has a pair of stools with antique horse saddles as seats.
For those who want to immerse themselves in a Harry Potter atmosphere, the apartment can be rented from £150 a night.
People with a favourite historical novel who want to make their home feel part it should visit a Preston antique shop, where they will find antique desks, antique settees and antique cupboards. Finding antique furniture dated from the time the novel was written can transform a room into a scene from a Charles Dickens or Jane Austen novel.
Even for those are not obsessed with a particular piece of literature, high-quality antique furniture can still enhance the look and feel of any room.
