The 20-30-40 Glass Society of Illinois will be sponsoring a sale of American glass in March, to be hosted by the Concord Plaza Midwest Conference Center in Northlake. Various types of glass will be included in the sale, along with some household names like Pyrex.
On the 8th and 9th March, around 25 dealers will gather at the conference centre to display their antique treasures, all made using American glass. Members of the 20-30-40 Glass Society of Illinois are all collectors themselves, with handmade glass, depression era glass and other materials from the same family. The money raised by the show will be donated to museums which display glass and help to preserve the history of glass made in America. All items included in the show will be made in America. Silverware and linens will be included to set the tables which will be used to display the glassware.
On both days of the show, members of the public will be asked to bring along glass which they would like to be identified, just as collectors take antique furniture to be appraised at shows. The club has a reference library which will be used to aid identification of the various types of glass. The club members get together six times each year to celebrate the American made glassware.
Perhaps the collectors of the items have considered displaying their treasures at home, like an antique cabinet. Preston has a number of antiques dealers with a variety of items on display.
