antique cabinets won’t seem the same without David Barby to haggle over the contents, but Lancashire residents mourning his passing will have a chance to see him in action once more, when Antiques Road Trip returns for its fifth series in October.

An STV production, Antiques Road Trip first came to our screens in early 2010 and has proved an unmitigated success, with series 4 drawing viewing figures in excess of 1.9m. The fifth season kicks off on Monday 1st October, when some of television’s most popular antiques experts will be travelling across counties from Cornwall to Cumbria – and beyond – for open bookcases and antique chests they can raid for profit at auction. The 30-part series will run on consecutive weekdays, with six pairs of contestants taking their turn behind the vintage driving wheels each week. Barby – whose scenes were filmed before his untimely death in July of this year – is joined by a host of antiques TV stalwarts including Mark Stacey, Catherine Southon and Anita Manning, who appeared with David in the very first episode.

Celebrity Antiques Road Trip, which started on 3rd September, follows the same format as ART, pairing the experts up with celebrities from sport, music, stage and screen. Episode 19, with Myleene Klass and John Barrowman, represents David’s last ever TV appearance, and will be shown some time in the future. However, anyone can find affordable antique bookcases and Victorian mahogany pedestal desks in Lancashire by visiting an antique dealer, and TV crews are definitely not required.
