The romance between Taylor Swift and Harry Styles is over after just two months – and the rumour is that Taylor’s love of antique desks and other things vintage may have hastened the split.
The name ‘Haylor’ probably won’t mean a lot to older Lancastrians, but it was the name fans affectionately gave to celebrity pop couple Harry Styles, 18, and Taylor Swift, 23, during their brief period together. Rumours have been rife regarding the reason for their break-up – one of the most enduring being that it was a simple case of incompatibility. According to a Radar Online report, it seems Harry, of boy band One Direction fame, was incompatible with the idea of staying at home with a cup of cocoa while his girlfriend enthused about Victorian dining chairs and antique chests. One source said:
“Harry wants to go out to fancy bars and clubs and enjoy being young, but Taylor’s more of a homebody and all she would talk about was antiques!”
Singer-songwriter Taylor regularly goes on antiques buying trips, although she is just as happy in a ‘shabby chic’ environment as she is surrounded by Chippendale cabinets and Victorian oak pedestal desks . Lancashire fans may remember her shopping spree in London’s Notting Hill district last year, when she disposed of £50,000 in just five minutes on purchases that included a vintage arcade machine.
This year, National Antiques Week is focussing on younger antique collectors, and even has a special prize for the ‘Young Guns’ of the trade. There is no lower age limit for buying an antique mahogany partners desk , and Lancashire has plenty of hip young antique dealers selling them.
