At Sock Monkey’N Around Antiques, shoppers happily browse among items which date back up to one hundred years. Antique Christmas ornaments, toys and china are all to be found in the Utah store. The owner, C J Bovee also sells sock monkeys, some of which are 80 years old.

Bovee’s ex-husband bought the first sock monkey ten years ago which started the collection. Since then, the collection has grown and each one is different. The oldest dates back to the 1930s. Bovee said:

“People were broke. It was the [Great] Depression, and they made their own toys.”

The antiques store is situated on 25th Street, Ogden and is usually full of customers who spend time admiring objects from years gone by. According to Bovee:

“People will come and spend three and four hours here. They see things and laugh because it reminds them of something. We get stuck with things that are new. That’s why I like to see things from the past.”

Very often, teenagers also show interest in the older items in the store. Vintage clothing is also a feature at the antiques store, designed and sold by Zoe Clemmens. Vintage clothing is becoming popular all over, being made differently and being part of history. Vintage jewellery is also popular, with “steam punk” jewellery being the latest craze. This is a combination of various antique items from the last century.

In the UK antique furniture is becoming increasingly popular, especially combining antiques with newer pieces just like “steam punk” jewellery. You will find a number of antiques dealers with furniture, including antique chests around Lancashire, which will fill your home with history and beauty.
