It is time to check through old clothes before throwing them out, because there is a growing market for quality clothing from a bygone era; vintage clothing is making a comeback.

Available online and on the high street is an assorted mix of non-designer and designer vintage clothing. Many pieces are sought after due to their contemporary feel and uniqueness, and are highly collectible. In this area of antiques, as with any area of antiques, buyers must beware. There are many fakes and imitations on the market. It is imperative that buyers know what that are purchasing and read descriptions carefully.

Many famous names in fashion have items that are highly sought after by collectors. Among them are Christian Dior, Paco Rabanne and Issey.

It is not just clothing that collectors are seeking but accessories as well, such as scarves, handbags and shoes. Savvy collectors are not just looking in antique clothing stores but rummaging in local jumble sales and charity shops.

There is such enormous interest that some charities have opened shops just selling the vintage clothing and accessories they receive as donations.

As always, condition is vital and clothes that are well worn will not get as good a price as clothes that have been taken care of correctly.

To complete the antique look, a good antique furniture dealer in the Ribble Valley area will be able to help you choose the right antique chest or wardrobe to complement those beautiful and rare antique dresses and suits.
