Charles Hanson, a well-known antiques expert who regularly appears on Bargain Hunt, Flog It! and Antiques Road Trip, is to appear at a fund raising event to help Coventry Watch Museum. The aim of the event is to raise £5,000 to support maintenance of the museum.
The event will be held at Ricoh Arena on 10th April, where around 250 people will gather to hear Hanson speak of his days in the auction world, before he attempts to produce 50 valuations within half an hour.
The Coventry Watch Museum is independent and exhibits clocks, watches, maps and tools from the trade to outline the history of watchmaking in the city. The industry dates back as far as 1680 and the museum is a celebration of the craftsmanship and artistry found in Coventry.
The chairman of the museum, Paul Shufflebotham, will open the event with a brief presentation before Hanson takes to the stage for his anecdotes and valuation. The evening will draw to a close with a raffle and an auction, which will feature a garden makeover, a pocket watch and signed copy of Bradshaw’s guide. People will bring along items to be valued, placing them on a table at the front of the room so that Charles can select the most interesting.
The museum may want to consider antique cabinets from Lancashire to display the clocks and watches to their full potential, as may individuals with a penchant for old timepieces.
